Who Am I??
Introduce
yourself. Tell us about your given name. What was your first
language? (if not English) What other languages do you speak? Where
were you born? Where did you grow up? Where do you live now?
My name is Vitaliy. I am turning 48 in March. My first language is Ukrainian because I was born there. So I was born is a village called Andriivka. I grew up there until 16 and then I left my home and moved to a city to find a job. After serving in army for 2 years, I moved back, got married and then moved to city of Khotyn. I lived there until I moved to the USA 6 years ago. I also speak Russian because at the days of my childhood, many people in Ukrainian were speaking in Russian, but in my family we mostly spoke in Ukrainian language. Now I speak English also which is my third language. My English is not perfect and I often make mistakes, but I am glad that I can understand American people now. I live in Sacramento.
What is your race? Your nationality/ethnicity? Describe your culture.
I am considered white because I am Ukrainian which is one of the European countries, but my skin is a little darker that usual skin of Ukrainian people so it was interesting that every nation who has skin color like me were thinking that I am from their nations, especially Spanish people :) My culture is rich but I don't really know that much about it. We have big variety of food. Our people like to work and sing at the same time which is usual from hundreds years earlier.
What
is important to you? What is the most important thing for teachers to
provide for young children? (no wrong answers, just talk about what is
on your mind after the first week of reading assignments)
Family is the most important to me. I feel so sad that there are laws in some states that require teachers to teach that there can be different types of family. It is important for me to teach my youngest daughter that father and mother is the only type of family that can exist. I have nothing against other opinions, but I would be really glad if teachers would be able to teach every child what is a family...
Who are
you? How do you define yourself? What is your story? Where/Who do
you come from? What experiences did you and your ancestors have? If you are adopted, answer what
questions you can and talk about the family you know, identify with, and
relate to best.
I am Vitaliy and I have an amazing family. I have a beautiful wife and 4 amazing children. I would define myself as a family man because I love to spend time with my family. I was growing in a little cillage and my best friend was my cousin. I always remember those years with a smile and if I would have a chance to live my childhood years again, I would live them the same as I did. My grandparents had a hard life. My grandpa, when he was 38, was killed by communists because of his faith, they took away all his clothes and made him stay outside until dying when there was about -20*F!!!!!!!!!! His wife was left alone with 5 children and three of them died. I cannot imagine how hard to have a life like that. Even my parents had hard lives because they went through the years when they had no food at all and lots of people around them were dying. I think that I will never be able to forget the story of my people, and they will be always honored in my heart.
Do you have children/grandchildren? Tell us about your family and home.
I have 4 children, but I don't have any grandchildren. Tanya is 25, Bogdan is 22, Marta is 19, and little Evangelina is 11. All kids, except Evangelina, are attending Sierra College. I love my family and I am glad I have each of them.
Do you currently work with young children? Tell us about your job with children.
I never worked with children but I already took many human development classes and I love to learn about them growing up.
Beyond being a required class, how might learning more about culture and diversity be useful to you both now and in the future?
Learning more about the culture and diversity can help me to raise my youngest daughter because she has different friends, from different cultures and she often gives me questions about differences in children that I am unable to answer.
What
do you like to do with your time? Hobbies? Interests? Music you
love? Tell the class about yourself so we can better understand one
another. This class requires sharing and getting to know one another.
This blog or Pinterest board is an introduction of who you are. Be
detailed and as descriptive as possible!
I LOVE MY LIFE! I love to stay with my family and go out for some trips together. I love tennis and I like classical and christian music. I also love to read Bible and other christian books. I am the pastor of the church and I love God. I am glad that I can come to church and praise the Lord. I also like to tell people about God and what he did in my life. I love to remember years when I was in the army, those were amazing years and I had lots of fun there. For some reason, people who were main there loved us, Baptists, and it was unusual. I love to take classes at Sierra and I am looking forward to this semester! I AM IS WHO I AM...
